Mark your Calendar: KEENfit Field Day & Resource Fair
Posted Apr 19, 2018 by Jacquie Robison
WAWOS is thrilled to have this amazing woman launch our guest post series. From time to time, we'll feature experts in all areas of pediatric rehab along with innovators in emerging modalities for otherly-abled children with the goal of educating, providing resources and growing the conversation around disability.

Meet Stacy Menz, the Founder of Starfish Therapies in San Mateo and a Board Member of KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) in San Francisco. The mission of this non profit is to empower youth with disabilities by providing free, non-competitive one-to-one programs of exercise, fitness and fun, led by volunteer coaches.

As a pediatric physical therapist, I am lucky enough to come into contact with phenomenal kids and teenagers on a daily basis. I get to see first-hand the heart, determination, and hard work they put into mastering the skills that you or I may not even think twice about. And the joy with which they do it is inspiring.

When I first found out about KEEN, I was beyond excited. As kids and teenagers with disabilities get older, there aren’t as many opportunities for them to participate in group activities with their peers. Here was an organization that didn’t see kids for what they couldn’t do, but rather celebrated what they could do. KEEN provides 1:1 volunteer coaches so these kids have non-competitive athletic opportunities and experience the sense of camaraderie that comes from playing sports. In this program, everybody is an athlete!

This year, KEEN San Francisco is holding the first ever KEENfit Field Day and Resource Fair on Saturday May 19th from 10 AM - 1 PM at Franklin Field in Burlingame

If you have an athlete who wants to participate in this FREE event, the link to sign up is: http://bit.ly/keenfit2018

What can you expect? There will be a field full of athletic happenings during the day, and as with all of KEEN’s activities, we are ready to support all that your athlete can do! In addition to the events, there will be resource fair for families to learn about other services in the area that may be of support to their athlete and their family.

This is a great opportunity for current KEEN athletes to come out and show what they can do and for new families to get involved with this organization so we can continue to grow our programming and empower more athletes!

If you are interested in volunteering for the day (thank you), being part of the resource fair (another thank you) or you want to be a sponsor (big thank you!), please email us: info@keensanfrancisco.org

We can't wait to meet your athlete!
