Yoga On and Zen Out

Sofia is navigating a little bit of a growth spurt right now and it's pretty fun. I love seeing her realize that she doesn't need a step stool to reach the sink and watch her as she delights in helping set the table because she can actually see what's in the cutlery drawer, rather than grabbing around blindly into it. It's been a long time since I've had a growth spurt -- I've come to terms with the fact that I'm just not going to hit that 5'7" I was hoping for! She has been complaining a little about growing pains. There's actually no medical evidence that growing pains are linked to bone growth, but some children do experience pain while others don't. In children with CP, spastic tone does mean tight muscles, and because bones grow faster than muscles stretch, a growth spurt can bring some soreness and sensitivity.
In children and adults alike, stretching is a great way to alleviate some of the pain and help lengthen muscles. I decided to combine my daughter's love of animals with some yoga moves and we have after school stretch sessions together. Let me know if you have some moves to add to our yoga chart!
