Fingerprint Artwork

MATERIALS
~ paper
~ stamp pad/assorted colors
~ marker

The idea for this craft came from a comment Sofia made after wiping off her hands following a dinner of spaghetti and meatballs (one of her favorites!). As she was getting the last dabs of sauce off her hands, she noticed that they left little round fingerprints on her paper napkin. A piece of spaghetti was hanging from one of them  and she said, ‘look, I made a balloon.’

Since then, we’ve used our fingers and our imaginations to tell stories with the characters and animals we create. She takes turns using the right hand and the left hand to make the fingerprints, and that’s the base for our drawing. It’s fun to come up with new ideas for things to draw and we love to use lots of different hues of ink. One of our most colorful pieces was caterpillars and butterflies, along with a garden of flowers complete with a rainbow!
